Smart, tightly focused and deeply affecting, “Naturally Obsessed” is an inspiration.
—The Washington Post (Read full review »)To view Naturally Obsessed is to be extremely engrossed.

“This is a movie about anxiety narrating itself, and to some extent about beauty, which is why it succeeds so well in communicating a compulsion to do science.”
–Lab Lit (Read full review »)Naturally Obsessed makes it clear that there is no way to make science easy: as a whole, it is nothing less than an ongoing lesson in dedication and persistence. But in an era when science has implications in everything from political policy to ethical and religious debates, filmmakers such as the Rifkinds are instrumental in reinterpreting science for popular culture.
—BioTechniques.com (Read full review »)Naturally Obsessed: The Making of a Scientist is the best film ever to depict what goes on inside a real science lab — period.
—PopSci.com (Read full review »)This film is a welcome reminder that, in training to become scientists, we are learning to think independently and tackle difficult problems but, most importantly, persevere. These skills are invaluable in any career path and reach far beyond the walls of the laboratory.
—Nature Network (Read full review »)The documentary is a lovely narrative, and it’s rewarding to watch Robert “win.” But it’s equally satisfying to see the grin on Gabe’s face as she describes how much happier she is outside the Ph.D. grind (most of the people I’ve known who left feel that way, whether immediately or eventually). Kil seems to find his niche as well (I don’t regret my choice).
—Web Of Science (Read full review »)Initially (before I received the movie), I thought it would simply be a good way to educate family and friends about the life of a crystallographer or graduate student in this field. Turns out, the movie is not only a great way to introduce people to this line of work, but a beneficial tool that can be used to recruit new students to this area of science.
The movie does not disappoint. It has some very entertaining characters who easily capture and hold the viewers attention.
